Who writes The Sizzle?
The Sizzle is written by me - Anthony Agius. Some of you probably know me as decryption, my internet name for over 30 years. I am Australian, live in the great state of Victoria in a town called Bacchus Marsh and like computers, the internet and other nerd stuff.
I was the co-founder of MacTalk, a nice Apple user community in the early 2000s that had a busy forum, a cheeky podcast and a single issue of a print magazine. MacTalk was sold to Niche Media who fucked it up so badly it died - RIP MacTalk. After that shitshow I ran an iOS developer conference called One More Thing with my friend Lauren that was fun but made no money.
A few mates and I started a tech blog called Reckoner. It won an award for Best Independent Media and also didn't make money so I became a freelance tech journalist writing for a few outlets but predominately Australian PC & Tech Authority.
When people stopped buying magazines and the arse fell out of the online media advertising market, I started The Sizzle. I sent an email out every day for almost 10 years until I got burned out in late 2024 and gave it to a real journalist - Cam Wilson.
Cam wrote a few hundred excellent issues of The Sizzle until he moved on to bigger and better things in mid-2026. I'm now back writing The Sizzle full-time and loving it. I also work part-time with the fine folks at Assembly Four educating non-tech people about the internet.
When I'm not working I slowly kill myself watching the North Melbourne Kangaroos attempt to play football, digitise old magazines, play a few video games, watch some movies and visit bakeries, shops and museums with my wife.
Some stuff you might remember me for:
- Went to New York to smuggle the first iPads into Australia because back then Australia didn't get Apple stuff the same time the USA did.
- Took advantage of a NAB credit card offer to earn hundreds of thousands of Qantas points by automating 1c transactions all over the place.
- Built a Litecoin mining farm in a shed, back when cryptocurrency was new and we didn't know any better. I'd be a millionaire if I kept the coins instead of selling.
Here's a crappy webcam photo of me, hello!
